All sorts of jazz, free jazz and improv. Never for money, always for love.
Jonas Kullhammar is the name of the latest comet on the Swedish jazz sky
and with the records "Salut" and "The Soul of Jonas Kullhammar"
he has got the critics to shout with joy.
Now, he has, by support from Ayler Records, gone out on the risky quagmire
of free jazz with his saxophone. The result can be heard on the fresh Ayler
Records issue "Live at Glenn Miller Café, Vol 1".
The free format seams to suite Jonas Kullhammar as a hand in a glove and
according to my opinion, he groves as a musician when he isn't tied to a
certain form any longer and instead starts to deal with spontaneous improvisation.
His musician collaborators are Peter Janson on bass and Paal Nilssen-Love
on drums and they lift Jonas Kullhammar's tenor playing with their pumping
intensity. They are also given plenty of space for their own solos.
