All sorts of jazz, free jazz and improv. Never for money, always for love.
There's a certain grandeur and gravity to the music of bassist William Parker and drummer Hamid Drake, even when dancing is on the agenda.
Swedish saxophonist Anders Gahnold withdrew from public view for a lengthy period following the death of Johnny Dyani, his long-term bass foil, but his rough-edged alto sounds perfectly at home framed by these two giants with a huge spring in their shared step.
Gahnold, splendidly economical and fiery when occasion demands, sets in motion reeling, teetering melodic lines that are glossed and extended expertly by Parker and Drake. Weight and elasticity in even measure make for some seriously ebullient, high calibre improvising.
