All sorts of jazz, free jazz and improv. Never for money, always for love.
This rehearsal set was never meant to be released, but drummer Marc
Edwards reckoned the performance was so ‘out there’, it was worth
hustling to get it out. His quartet features Jeffrey Hayden Shurdut
(piano) and the guitars of Tor Snyder and Ernest Anderson III. And
Edwards is right – the music’s magma flow has a luminosity that would be
impossible to recapture. Shurdut’s tactile clusters push way beyond the
piano’s capacity for volume and depth of sound, and the two guitars
work themselves between harmony and white noise.
This is a download only purchase, which is about right – the first track
is briskly cut off and Shurdut’s piano is a tinny sounding instrument.
It’s a sketch for a great album to come.
