Jeffrey Hayden Shurdut - The Williamsburg Sessions II

Henrik Kaldahl, Jazznet

New release from the very productive guitarist Jeffrey Hayden Shurdut, this time in the trio format recorded at O's Williamsburg in New York City on December 14, 2006.

Shurdut plays on this release on guitar and amplifiers and is backed up by Blaise Siwula on alto saxophone and Brian Osborne on drums.
This release consists of three numbers, two of them rather long, ranging from 22 to 24 minutes and one runs in on about nearly 6 minutes. This is free playing and improvisation at it's finest form, all three contributing musicians play at their finest and the result is nothing but amazing.

When I listen to Mr. Shurdut's music, I always come to think of him as a modern Albert Ayler, the way he play, thinks and compose music brings the thoughts back to the great master of free jazz and improv.
If you don't know the incredible music of Shurdut, this is the perfect place to start as this is the easiest available release from his mighty hands yet. Not as hard and rough in the sound as some of his other releases this would be a great place to begin the travel into Shurdut's musical world.

But listeners beware – when you first get started there is no way back, you are going to be hooked for life.
